Biography

How long have you been part of the BluCru?

Since November 2014

What is your biggest accomplishment at Bluprint?

I’m most proud of incorporating a strength component into my workout routine and learning the Olympic lifts, something I never thought I’d get into. I’m proud that I can call myself strong as a result of the work I’ve put in at Bluprint. I may not be lifting the heaviest weights, but I’ve come a long way since I started.

What keeps you coming back to Bluprint Fitness?

Growing up with three brothers and a sister, we were always competing in sports or making up our own basement or backyard competitions. I love the fact that I can still have a competitive outlet in my life as an adult. At Bluprint, we compete hard every day but we also encourage and support each other along the way. If I show up to the gym after a stressful day at work, I usually leave the gym not remembering what I was worried about when I showed up. I almost always leave feeling invigorated with a sense of gratitude and a reminder to live in the present.

What is your favorite thing to do at BP Fitness?

Zero Dark… just kidding, although there’s something I enjoy about a long and strenuous workout that challenges both your mental and physical toughness. Despite being fatigued and uncomfortable, you still manage to push through and it’s a great feeling at the end to know that you gave it everything you had.

What would you tell someone considering joining?

What are you waiting for? Prior to joining Bluprint, I thought that I didn’t need to spend money on a gym to stay fit. I thought I could get it done on my own by going outside for a run, doing some lunges or pushups, or picking up dumbbells in the living room if I was feeling adventurous. Not only was this probably quite ineffective, but it was boring and uninspiring. When I joined Bluprint, it finally clicked. If health and fitness are so important to me, of course I should be willing to invest and I realized it’s probably one of the smartest decisions I’ve made (thanks to encouragement from my elementary school friend and fellow BP athlete Ashlee Villanti). Also, I didn’t realize how much fun it could be. There is so much variety in the workouts at Bluprint that you will never get bored and you will want to keep coming back for more.

What do you do for fun?

I love playing and watching sports – Cubs baseball, beach volleyball, flag football, biking, etc. I like exploring different neighborhoods in the city and the occasional themed food crawl.

Coach’s Comments

Everyone knows Maura is a gamer. She’s consistent, works her ass off, and jumps into competitions/events that help her grow as an athlete. She’s conquered strict pull-ups, competed in the Trodo Games, and crushed the workouts in the 2017 CrossFit Open. If you want to know what being a part of the BluCru is all about – just mimic Maura’s effort and attitude. We are extremely excited to watch Maura continue to progress!
